In all equipped vehicles, an auxiliary battery is used to prevent the electrical consumption of the cabin from exhausting the starter battery while the vehicle is stopped.

The relay separator connects the auxiliary battery with the starter battery when the engine is running, allowing the alternator to charge both batteries. When the vehicle is stopped, the relay isolates the batteries to protect the starter. Traditional alternators delivered constant voltages of ≥13.4V, and the classic relay E772 (V1) used that voltage to manage the connection and disconnection of batteries.

However, with regulations EURO6 demanding low emissions, automotive manufacturers have developed intelligent alternators with variable voltage according to the consumption needs. While these alternators improve energy efficiency, they slow down the battery charge.

The traditional relay E772 (V1) can present problems when connecting with intelligent alternators, which could delay or prevent the proper load. For this reason, the new one has developed smart relay E772 V2, designed to be compatible with all types of alternators, including smart ones.

Advantages of the E772 V2 relay:

  1. Universal compatibility: Works as the E772 (V1) with traditional alternators, but optimizes the load with intelligent alternators.
  2. Detection of movement: Includes a sensor that detects when the vehicle is running, ignoring isolated vibrations to avoid false connections. Relay activates or deactivates the connection with a controlled delay.
  3. Ideal diode function: The microcontroller detects the sense of the current to prevent:
    • The start engine consumes power from the auxiliary battery.
    • The auxiliary battery is discharged to the main when the intelligent alternator does not generate enough voltage.
  4. Main battery protection: Disconnect the auxiliary battery if the starter battery drops below 12V.
  5. High load capacity: Supports 180A current peaks and a 120A nominal current.

Installation and use recommendations:

  • Appropriate cables: Use Section Cables equal to or above 10 mm2 and keep them as short as possible to avoid voltage losses that may affect the microcontroller.
  • Location: Install the relay near the alternator and firmly attach it to the vehicle.
  • Start/Stop system: Deactivate it if you need to quickly charge the auxiliary battery.
  • Precaution in ships or trains: Turn off all battery charges to avoid problems during transport.

With this system, the E772 V2 relay ensures a more efficient and safe load, adapting to the needs of modern vehicles.
